Yellow Cab Awards $7,500 in Scholarships
San Antonio, TX (July 1, 2008) Yellow Cab, San Antonio’s only computer-dispatched taxi fleet, has announced the recipients of the 3rd annual company scholarship award. The five $1,500 scholarship awards may be used for college or technical school training and are awarded to the children of independent contractor drivers at Yellow Cab and Yellow Cab employees. The drivers and employees themselves are also eligible. As part of the application process, the candidate writes an essay entitled “Why this scholarship is important to me.” Applications are judged based on essays, transcripts and financial needs.

“The Company takes great pride in giving back to the community,” said John Bouloubasis, President of Yellow Cab San Antonio. "We are pleased to support the recipients in their efforts to further their education and achieve their aspirations. Here is a brief look this year’s recipients:
James Shortt is the son of independent contractor driver Guy Bourne. He will be a freshman at Sam Houston State this fall, having recently graduated from Reagan High School. He plans to major in construction management and hopes to one day own his own construction company.
Evelene Long, GSATC dispatcher, is a repeat scholarship recipient. She will be a senior this year at UTSA in pursuit of her teaching certificate. Last semester, she made the dean’s list with a perfect 4.0 GPA. She looks forward to teaching elementary school students.
Rynn Borg, accounts receivable clerk at GSATC, will be entering her junior year at Wayland Babtist University where she is majoring in business management. Despite holding a full time job, Rynn has maintained a 3.78 GPA.
Pedro Cabrera, son of lost & found clerk Ana Bel Cabrera, is planning his second year at San Antonio College. His chosen major is education, and his long-term plans include becoming a middle school science teacher.
Michelle Barnard is the daughter of former GM Mike Barnard. She will soon begin her sophomore year at Northwest Vista College. Her ambition is to enter the field of architectural design.
