Alert Cab Program to Help in the Fight Against Drunk Driving

San Antonio Restaurant Association, Silver Eagle Distributors, and
Yellow Cab Partner to Launch City-Wide Alert Cab Program

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS (April 08, 2008) – As San Antonio residents get ready to celebrate FIESTA, the San Antonio Restaurant Association, Silver Eagle Distributors and Yellow Cab are pleased to announce the launch of the Alert Cab program.  Participating in today’s announcement at Sunset Station were The Honorable Nelson Wolff, County Judge Bexar County, The Honorable Mary Alice Cisneros, Mayor Pro Tem of San Antonio, Susan Reed, Bexar County District Attorney, William McManus, Chief of Police of San Antonio, Lt. Christina Guerra, Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission, Gary Johnson, president, San Antonio Restaurant Association,  John Nau, president & CEO, Silver Eagle Distributors, L.P. and Mike Barnard, President of Yellow Cab Company.

Developed as a program to help keep San Antonio streets and highways safe, the Alert Cab program helps prevent drunk driving by providing free cab rides home for adults who may have had too much to drink.  “I applaud the efforts of San Antonio Restaurant Association, Yellow Cab and Silver Eagle Distributors.  This program will encourage responsible behavior and will be of great benefit to the San Antonio community,” said Judge Nelson Wolff.

Local bars and restaurants participate in the program by calling a confidential phone number and requesting a cab pick-up for patrons who may have had too much to drink. Vouchers provided to the establishments are used to provide a free, safe ride home. “We are incredibly excited to be included in this great partnership and provide our members with additional opportunities to promote responsibility,” said Gary Johnson, president of the San Antonio Restaurant Association.

Alert Cab is part of Silver Eagle’s ongoing consumer awareness and education initiative.  “We encourage all adults who choose to drink to do so responsibly,” said John L. Nau, III, president and CEO of Silver Eagle Distributors. “We are proud to partner with the San Antonio Restaurant Association and Yellow Cab to provide this important service to the San Antonio community.”

Yellow Cab has signed on as the primary transporter for the Alert Cab program, which will run year-round, with heightened awareness during key periods, such as Fiesta, July 4th and the winter holidays. “Drunk driving is 100 percent preventable, and we are pleased to participate in this program and do our part to help keep our roads and highways safe,” said Mike Barnard, president of Yellow Cab .
